What do you think of when you hear the word Bolivia?
For most people, the answer is “I have not thought about it too much before”.
After I had heard some version of that phrase enough times, I knew we had to put a Bolivia program together and explore these hidden corners of the Andes Mountain Range.
For several years, the team at Epic has been preparing for the day we could launch this Bolivia trip. I have dreamed about it and spent enough time on Google Earth flying over the topography that I could probably draw you a pretty good map by heart.
With all that build up, planning, and putting a team together, the day finally came in early May 2025 to make it happen. It was game time in the Andes.
Over the last two weeks, I was reminded time and time again why I do this job and how important it is for others to also take the time to push their own limits in the mountains.
Bolivia is that sort of place that acts as the best kind of reset button. While we disengaged from our busy lives and the online world, we fully engaged our often-neglected primal senses, and just had time with ourselves and each other. We burned our muscles on Andean snow slopes and laughed like fools at questionable card game results – all the while sipping coffee from mugs with a soft rain falling on the dome tent roof above.
From visiting fortune tellers reading coca leaves in El Alto to exploring some truly remote valleys and hanging off the sides of exposed ridges – for people who are just crazy enough to enjoy this stuff – Bolivia blew our collective expectations out of the water, and it was one of the most memorable Epic trips I have led in a long time. Simply put, Bolivia is a movable alpine feast.
There are months where nothing happens, and weeks where decades happen. And… we had a pair of weeks, didn’t we?
Special thanks to the fine individuals who decided to come on this Epic journey in Bolivia.
Extra special thanks to our hardworking staff and team in Bolivia. Pedro, the guides, the cooks, the drivers – NONE of this happens without these guys. Muchas gracias.
